The Tarnished Silver chapter was a great one. I think I tried reading it years ago but didn’t get through it. It’s hard considering Silver’s supposed age to suspend disbelief where her behavior is so extremely masochistic. I’m sure I’ll see more of the reasoning behind that as I continue, though. It helped a lot that I knew Rarity’s backstory. I especially appreciate how Rarity loses her own innocence when she commits her first dark deeds.
I tried reading Tarnished Silver a long time ago, but had never read Rarity's Garden (and had no idea they were related), so I set it aside with disinterest. I like and enjoy dark things - arguably more than I like non-dark stuff - but the impression I had at the time was that there wasn't a strong deeper narrative beyond 'these characters are fucked in the head', and that usually isn't enough for me to care. Does Rarity's Garden add enough context to change that?

Mostly a continuation of Silver’s fetishized abuse by Rarity with a bit of backstory development for Silver Spoon, but we get a glimpse into Sweetie’s abuse and their first semi-detailed interaction in the story.
I feel like Silver’s backstory doesn’t fully cover how desperate she is for continued abuse. If her family has done absolutely nothing but neglect her, then I dunno. The damage it did to put her in her current state just hasn’t come across, though I think Ham Gravy is trying to do exactly that. Falling short there doesn’t devalue the story for me at all, but the fetishism wasn’t as appealing to me this chapter as it was before. Silver masturbating to Rarity’s cruelty turns me on more than the actual cruelty, but there’s not a lot of focus on that. I’m glad it makes an appearance in two chapters so far at least.
I expect the focus might be shifting in the next chapters. I can see Sweetie’s interaction with Silver being very interesting as it continues.

As it stands, Sweetie’s anger at Silver makes sense to me, and I could see it developing into hope for an end to Sweetie’s loneliness if that’s something Sweetie feels. If the reference to Nightmare Moon is meant as foreshadowing, I can imagine Sweetie trying to overthrow her sister with or without Silver’s assistance.
As the abuse became somewhat repetitive, I found myself wondering if I could write the same dynamic, but wholesome or uplifting. Ham Gravy does a good job at calculating what I think are realistically piercing remarks and actions, and the thought occurred to me, what if the same effort and skill were used to build up a willing Silver Spoon, Rarity, Diamond Tiara, or Sweetie Belle
I did notice Rarity seems to contradict herself through her actions sometimes. I don’t expect Silver to care or even notice, but, for example, Rarity puts so much effort into abusing her and arranging for her to stay yet tells her she’s not worth anything and she’s nearly ready to throw her out for not pleasing Hoity.

It could be explained away, yes, but it isn’t in the story just yet. Not really an issue imo, just interesting. Maybe Rarity makes the effort because she values Silver in some way, but I’ve come not to expect an author to necessarily account for this sort of detail, especially in fetish-heavy writing.
It would be a little disappointing if it’s never addressed or made clear, but I’m a forgiving reader. Of course I’ll reserve judgement until the end, and it’s not a huge issue, like I said.
Rarity does explain she likes fillies in Tarnished Silver and that she’d abuse Silver as a sex toy, but she also insists she can do that with any filly she wants. And again in Silver Spoon’s Mark I think Rarity explained her efforts as taking what’s hers, but if she really wanted to hurt Silver, I think she’d neglect her like her parents did for more than just a night of course. I’d like to see Silver’s reaction to lukewarm affection followed by disregard. I also think I’d like it if Rarity tried to make Silver angry. Acceptance is the opposite of powerlessness. Hurting someone emotionally is really only possible when they don’t accept what’s happening to them. Seems likely that Rarity has considered that and is going for a new approach since Silver is special.
Hoity's rape is described by Silver in a handful of sentences I think, and there's been repeated allusion to Pip being raped (by Rarity in the past and Hoity in the future)
